Environment Practice

Hey folks! Finals are going on! Yay. It feels like that's been going on for about 3 weeks... Probably because it has. In my Environments class, our task was to design the same location with two different moods. I again chose my Steampunk team in 1918. They renovated a recently vacated 1912 firehouse and used it as an HQ for some time.

The first mood is "Optimistic." They first get the HQ an start solving cases involving the robotic members of society. Either proving their innocence or guilt.

The second mood, "Depressing," is after a team member dies and everything that can go wrong does.

For the assignment, adding in elements outside of the main structure wasn't a big concern. But that's the biggest inclusion I want to add to these images. Anything that gives the location a specific time frame and location will really sell this piece. The building itself is solid and the water is a great effect and I learned a lot, but I'll be adding other textures and include time specific vehicles as well.

Another note, I've read enough Sin City for one week. It was a huge inspiration for the Depressing mood.

Alice

So, I challenged my friend Jess one day to draw her version of Alice. Years later, she actually followed through on her challenge.

This drawing is about a couple of years old. So, I have a legal obligation to update it (according to Jess :P)

You can see Jessica's rendition of Alice on her blog here.

Crab Bot Concepts, pt2!

Second part of the Crab Bot concept. It really can't be called a crab. There's no claws. It only has 4 legs too. So, it can't be a spider bot...Nor a Scorpion bot. It's a weird robot.

Anyways.

UPDATE!
Thanks Nick for Matthew's site!

Now, check out Kinematifest anyways!!

Crab Bot Concepts

A concept for my friends and I to work on. A design for a specific type of robot in Cathy Catastrophe.
Just the first two designs. The last design will either be an addition to this post, or in the next.

I met a group of students from St. Louis at Siggraph not too long ago. My group and theirs clicked almost instantly. It was pretty awesome. And our skills really complement one another.
So, here's to hoping my friend Matt can animate this!

Of course, it has to be built first. So, I'm pretty sure my friend Nick is taking care of that.

And as for their websites, I need to find them for proper credit.

So@

Well, this semester is done! Whoo!
And hopefully, I'll be able to take my last class this Maymester.
If not, I guess I'll have time to do some more of these concepts for Cathy's outfits.

And I did play around with some brushes I got somewhere online. I love the blending, and when I remember where I downloaded 'em from, I'll share.

This of course makes me want to make my own brushes. :P

I haven't been idle. :P

SO!
I'm busy working on a new class assignment, I properly chose my awesome character Catastrophe.
2D Animation blended with 3D Animation. It should be good.

....Yes those are notes.
...And yes I have need for all these action poses :)

I'm up at the school scanning things!

The school has a large Epson this-that-and-another-with-4-digit-number-you-can't-buy-me....scanner....perfect for 11 x 17 pages. I think it goes to 12x 17 1/2 or something. Anyways...

Thought I might show the first design sheet for Ivan Greystone; a mercenary, rogue, and professional asshole who can heal from any wound. He's the main character of the story who prefers to keep his past a secret, even from his closest friends. When your secret involves the near destruction of an entire nation and threatened the entire continent (all volunterally), you'd wanna keep it a secret too.

I'll post more when the school's not closing for the day.

This thing took up my time today

And what a thing it is.

Orthographic front view of the creature called the Seethe. Front view, complete with notes to Gene who'll be modeling it in 3D

Side view is next.

The 4th

Was pretty fun. But I'm tired as all get out.
I downed so much coffee it's not funny.

Me and my friends went out to a little NorthWest Texas town called Munster and shot fireworks.

Catastrophe shot off fireworks too.

...Really big ones...

...The tech specialist she is.

I'll post the comic when it's done.

Concept Design

What a fun term. It can be used to describe all sorts of things! Conceptual design!

An awesome excuse for not knowing what the heck we're drawing!
lol j/k

Just a robot concept for my friend Adam. He's a writer by trade and manager by profression. He'll be fine. But he's asked me to design the robots for a story he's working on.

So this is a warm-up.
